Digi pack analysis 2

This advert it for The Kings of Leon album “only by the night” the main image is of the bands lead singer Caleb Followill merged with the image of a bald eagle.  This is an entropic element as the image is very unusual and not the typical idea of a bands album cover.  The colour of the album links in the album name “only by the night” because it is a similar colour to a night vision camera view.

The size of the advert is about the size of an A4 page, this helps it to be noticed by readers and will persuade people to buy the album either out of curiosity or because they are a fan. The target audiences for the bad are likely to be teenager from 14 – 18 and it is quite likely that young adults ranging from the early 20’s to early 30’s will enjoy the music. The music appeals to the target audience because the music isn’t offensive to anyone and they can have a good time listening to it.

The entropic element of the cover is appropriate for this genre of music as rock bands usually features images of their lead singer in their albums

Textual analysis part 4

Shot types and camera movement: Close ups of the band and dancers, frequent strait cuts between dancers and band

Analysis: There are a series of shot reverse shots when one of the dancers approaches a hole in the sheet to get a look at the band; this is matched with the hole from his point of view. There is then a medium long shot of the boy looking through the whole and then he suddenly jumps back as there is a close up of Mr. lordi’s hand reaching out to grab him

Edit: several close ups of the band and dancers, vibrate effect when the word Bitch is held on one note to show the volume of the song

Music/Lyrics
Cause the devil is a loser and he's my bitch
For better or for worse and you don't care which
Cause the devil is a loser and he's my bitch
Runnin' into trouble you skitch
He's my bitch

Textual analysis part 3

Shot types and camera movement: medium long shots of the band approaching through various entrances and some

Analysis: The first shot is a close up the DJ’s torch being picked up by a teenager and shone at a door, there is a close up of the door with something behind it scratching at the glass, this makes the audience fee like they are looking at the same door with the dancers. This then cuts back to the dancers looking around the room =, followed by another band member entering through some plastic sheets, but he is only silhouetted, this connotes a fear of the unknown which will appeal to the audience, the transition from dancers looking around to medium long shots of the other band members continue until the last band member has entered.

Edit: Edit: fast, strait cuts between the scared faces if the dancers to the monsters (band members) quite scary and intense which matches the music

Music/Lyrics
Music/Lyrics
You got stronger but your mind got weak
You made a promise that you couldn't keep
You had it all - You lost more
It's all there in the fee’

Textual Analysis part 2

Shot: Shot types and camera movement: mainly medium close ups of the DJ and one of the dancer, one camera tilt when the torch moves up to reveal the mouth

Analysis: There is a close up of the broken record some how starting again, as the music begins the audience will know that the bad are about to begin. This is then followed by a close up of the DJ’s face with a terrifying shape appearing behind him, this cuts to a medium close up of the DJ and the shape getting bigger behind him, this will appeal to the audience because the lead singer of the band has made an unusual but entertaining entrance. The video then strait cuts to a medium shot of some of the dancers gaping at the mysterious shape, there is another close up of the DJ’s face as he realizes there is something behind him and there is a birds eye view of him as he turns around. This then cuts to the shape being lit up by the DJ’s torch and then there is a close up of a fanged, snarling mouth.

Edit: shot reverse shot of the DJ to Mr. Lordi’s mouth

Music/Lyrics
You wanted power and you begged for fame
You wanted everything the easy way
You wanted gain without pain
Now your bill is in the mail’

Digi pack Analysis 1

Digipack analysis

This image is of an advert for Green Days single “wake me up when September ends”. The band play punk rock music so typical of the genre, the main image shown is a low angle shot of the bands lead singer and star Billy Joe Armstrong in mid song. This will appeal to Green Day fans because they will recognise the singer, as he is the face of the band.

The song itself is all about being depressed that summer is over so the layout of the advert will reflect this theme, for example the singer’s facial expression is depressive his costume is black and he has black eye liner on, this reflects the feelings he has of anger, sadness and loss of a happier time. The lighting in this shot lights up half of the singers face, from an artistic point of view this could suggest the memories Billy has of summer (the light side of his face) and the depression he now has now summer is over (the dark side of his face). The font consists of the Green Day logo and the name of the single, the name of the single is written in a kind of scrawling text t bring out the depression theme. Another property of the font is that it is in the same colour scheme as the American idiot album, this album features the single advertised and many other best selling singles, this helps it advertise to the audience and hopefully after hearing the single they will want to buy the album.

The size of the album is about the size of an A4 magazine page this means it can get the maximum amount of interest from readers. The target audience is likely to be teenagers aged 13-18 or even young adults age 20+, the elements that appeal to them are the upbeat songs the band play, the bands image and the idea about rebellion they evoke
