Evaluation part four

Evaluation question 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?
To gain some audience feedback I decided to make a group on Face book, where I could post my music video and drafts of my digi pack and magazine advert. I also posted our video onto YouTube so that I could get feedback from a wider audience.

In order to learn more about my audience I needed to do some research into the indie genre and everything about its fans. This would help us to appeal to our target audience and their needs as we would know their likes and dislikes, enabling us to create a video to their taste.

Here is a slide from our pitch that we felt summed up a typical indie fan:

And here is the link to my audience feedback presentation on my blog:http://sams-a2-media.blogspot.co.uk/

The audience have been affected by the text in a variety of ways and i received both. For example my original text was coloured blue. This didn't go down well as the audience couldn’t read it, so suggested that I use a lighter colour such as white instead. After making this moderation they felt that it looked a great deal better
It would appear that the hypodermic needle theory is demonstrated through audience feedback. It appears that great amounts of pleasure are given to the audience without them realising as most comments just say “love it” or “Awesome”.

Evaluation question 2

Evaluation: question 1

When I first started my project I decided that I would go with the “Indi” music genre, this is because I have a good friend who has his own Indi band and album, and would hopefully let me use his songs. The Indi genre is usually a sort of alternative rock kind of music with a lot of softer tones than classic rock. Its music follows the theme of getting back to nature and appreciating its beauty.

I made this mood board for our groups pitch in Microsoft word, using the crop and picture effects tools. We tried to cover every aspect of the Indi genre from love of nature to the music’s unique fashion trend.

We drew inspiration for our mood board’s pictures from a number of different areas. As the Indi motive is usually about nature we sourced a number of images of forests, animal’s etc From Google images. Youth culture is another important aspect of the genre so we decided to put up some images of the London riots from August 2010, and also of Indi student fashions.  My personal favourite image is an electric guitar combined with a living tree with birds flying around it. I feel that this is a more entropic symbol of the Indi genre, showing music and nature co existing as one.

In our music video we decided to follow the whole “getting back to nature” idea, so we filmed most of our shots in the surrounding woodland around Ludlow. We also featured a growing tree in our stop motion sequence in our video, when they lyrics “I want life, I want hope” are herd.

I decided to follow a similar theme with my Digi pack so that it would complement our music video. I used a series of holiday photos I had taken on holiday for the getting back to nature theme. I think that I have created an effective colour scheme that ties in well with the nature theme, by using photos with a lot of greenery in my Digi pack

I feel that my products are slightly more different to ‘real’ products due to a number of factors. Firstly my music video is not as high a quality in terms of sound or clarity due to a nonexistent budget and only the recourses provided by college at our disposal. I feel that our video was a little more creative than some conventional videos as we had no real narrative in the video and we also featured a stop motion sequence adding an entropic element to our video and making it more original.

The audience response to the video was on the whole very positive. They said that the video follows the themes of the Indi genre and that the shots were of a good quality. However they mentioned that it was difficult to understand the narrative of the video and the sound quality needed correcting.
My Digi pack may not be as high a standard as real life examples because I have never used photo shop before, so as a novice I think that I have created a good quality product. My audience responses to my Digi pack tell me that the colour scheme is an excellent choice and that the photos are perfect for this type of genre.

Although I have used a wide range of entropic elements, I have also used some redundant elements in my products. For example, my Digi pack features the normal text you would expect to find on an album cover such as the artist name and album name, and a track list. I have also featured track listings and a bar code to make it look authentic.

The overall effect of using redundant and entropic elements on my audience gives them a feel of mystery about the video. At the same time they are comfortable watching it and recognise similar elements of other videos.

Second drafts

After taking in the audience feedback, I have made several changes to the photos. These include changing the colour of the font so that it's visible, changing the vibrancy and brightness of the photos and adding in logos.

Facebook group

In order to get the feedback I need I ahve decided to make a facebook group so that people can view my photo's and music video and comment

Final cut of the music video

Here is the final cut of our music video. Unfortunately our group had an issue with the sound but hopefully the audience will respond well to it.
